Frequently Asked Questions

Does PixelGuard upload my photos or metadata?

No. PixelGuard processes photos and videos locally on your iPhone or iPad. Media and metadata are not sent to AIXion servers. If you share media to another app, your chosen destination handles that share.

What metadata does PixelGuard remove?

"Fully Clean Photo" removes privacy-sensitive metadata such as GPS location, camera/device fields, software tags, and EXIF/IPTC date fields where present. Exact fields depend on the source media format.

Which media are supported?

PixelGuard supports still photos, Live Photos, and videos in your iOS or iPadOS Photos library. Still photos remain still photos, Live Photos are saved back as Live Photos with motion and sound, and videos are saved back as videos. For Live Photos and videos, PixelGuard removes supported privacy metadata from the video resource while preserving playback.

What happens to my original photo or video?

By default, PixelGuard keeps your original and saves a cleaned copy. You can turn off "Keep Original" in Settings if you want to replace the original with the cleaned version.

Where is the cleaned media saved?

Cleaned photos and videos are saved to your Photos library.

Does PixelGuard work offline?

Yes for cleaning itself. Network may still be needed if iOS or iPadOS must download an iCloud photo or video first, or when using App Store purchase/restore features.

What is included in the free plan?

The free tier allows up to 3 cleans per day across the app, Clean Camera, and the share-sheet extension. Each photo, video, or Live Photo counts as one. Camera modes and supported video quality/FPS are available with Free and Pro. When the limit is reached, Clean Camera can still capture and save originals without removing metadata. Notices before and after saving explain that the media has not been cleaned and that Pro removes the daily clean limit. Review these originals before sharing.

How does Clean Camera work?

To open Clean Camera, allow PixelGuard access to all or selected photos in your Photos library and allow camera access when asked. In PixelGuard 1.3.0, Clean Camera captures photos, videos, and Live Photos. With Pro or a free clean remaining, it removes supported location, camera, and device information before saving. If cleaning fails, it reports the failure and does not save an uncleaned copy instead. For videos and Live Photos, originals are saved only when the daily free allowance has already been used, with clear notices before and after. If the daily count cannot be checked, a video or Live Photo is not saved and the app reports the problem so you can retry. Still photos keep their existing behavior in this case: the original is saved with a notice that its metadata was not removed. Review uncleaned originals before sharing.

Can I change video quality or keep my camera settings?

Choose the quality and FPS combinations supported by your device in Settings. Your capture mode, Live Photo, quality, and FPS choices are restored when you reopen the camera or app. If a choice is no longer supported, PixelGuard uses an available alternative and explains the change. There is no app-imposed recording duration cap. Storage, temperature, system interruptions, or OS limits can still stop recording; the app explains the result.

How do I restore camera or microphone permission?

In PixelGuard Settings, camera and microphone permission states appear beside photo access. Use the link to iOS Settings to change permission after a denial. Audio is enabled when microphone access is allowed; recordings made without that access are clearly marked as silent.

Can I clean from the Photos share sheet?

Choose "Clean with PixelGuard" in the Photos share sheet to save cleaned copies without opening the app. The extension asks for Photos add-only access when saving copies. The extension handles up to 10 photos per action and shares the same daily free allowance. Originals stay in place. A Live Photo is saved as a still photo; videos are not supported in this extension. Some large or unsupported images may not be cleaned, and unsuccessful items do not use a free clean.

What do suggestions, notifications, and the widget show?

At launch, PixelGuard can suggest new photos that still contain location information. If you allow notifications, iOS may also run a background check and notify you about new photos with location information. Background checks are not guaranteed to run at a fixed time. The Home Screen widget shows counts from saved suggestions and opens them in the app. The app also offers Shortcuts and Siri actions to check or clean photos.

What do I get with PixelGuard Pro?

Pro removes privacy-risk information from multiple photos with no app-imposed photo limit through Apple-managed purchases.

Is there a batch limit?

Free users have up to 3 cleans per day, counting each photo, video, or Live Photo once. Pro has no app-imposed photo limit and can clean multiple photos at once.

How does auto-renewable billing work?

PixelGuard Pro Monthly (USD $2.99/month) and Yearly (USD $19.99/year) are auto-renewable subscriptions. Existing Lifetime purchases (USD $39.99 once, or the local price shown by Apple) do not renew. Apple shows your local price before purchase. Eligible first-time yearly subscribers may see a 14-day free trial; Apple shows eligibility and the exact end date. Unless canceled, the yearly price is charged when the trial ends. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or paid period ends to avoid the next charge.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Manage or cancel in iOS or iPadOS Settings > your name > Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I restore purchases?

Open PixelGuard and use the in-app "Restore Purchases" action. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for purchase.

Billing Summary

  • Yearly: USD $19.99/year, or the local price shown by Apple. A 14-day trial is shown only when eligible.
  • Monthly: USD $2.99/month, or the local equivalent shown by Apple.
  • Existing Lifetime purchases: USD $39.99 one-time, or the local equivalent shown by Apple; existing access and restoration continue.
  • Subscriptions: cancel at least 24 hours before renewal or trial end to avoid the next charge.
  • Manage subscriptions in iOS or iPadOS Settings > your name > Subscriptions.
  • Payment and refunds are handled by Apple.

Subscription Management

How do I request a refund?

App Store refunds are handled by Apple. Submit your request at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I switch plans?

In PixelGuard 1.3.0, choose Yearly or Monthly from the in-app Pro screen for a new purchase. Existing Lifetime access and purchase restoration continue. Manage an existing subscription in iOS or iPadOS Settings > your name > Subscriptions. A Lifetime purchase in an earlier app version does not automatically cancel an existing subscription; cancel its renewal first.

What if Pro is not unlocked after purchase?

  1. Confirm you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for purchase.
  2. Open PixelGuard and tap "Restore Purchases".
  3. Force close and reopen PixelGuard, then restart your device if needed.
  4. If Pro is still locked, email support with your app version and a purchase receipt screenshot if useful. Hide your Apple ID and payment details.
